Bio

Sasha Novotny (born 1998), also known under the pen name Sasha the Kid, or simply Sasha, is a Filipino American contemporary painter born in Tacoma, WA. Sasha is renowned for his unique oil stick portraits often depicting minimalist yet vibrant subjects. While he is primarily known for his canvas work, he also frequently delves into sculpture, mural art, music, and street fashion. Sasha’s dedication to painting began during his college years, driven by a deep depression that compelled him to use art as an escape.

Currently based near Denver, Colorado, Sasha's painting style is authentically distinctive, drawing comparisons to Basquiat and Picasso, as noted by Denver Westword Magazine in 2021. Sasha is an avid motocross enthusiast, a connection reflected in his choice of colors: red, blue, yellow, and green, mirroring the iconic Japanese motorcycle brands dominating the motocross industry during his formative years including Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Kawasaki.

Sasha's art finds inspiration in the celebration and expression of his inner child. Many viewers liken his work to the youthful creations of crayon on paper, evolved into professional canvas compositions. He skillfully employs the contrast between the simplicity of white canvas backgrounds and colorful lines to convey themes of childhood, immediacy, and impermanence, leaving a profound impact on all who engage with his creations. In this way, Sasha's art resonates with a broad spectrum of audiences, from casual observers to those well-versed in art history.
